Choose the best protection for your cell phone

Hardly any other device plays such a central role in everyday life as a cell phone. It is essential that it works smoothly for communication, information, and much more. But even a moment of carelessness can lead to damage to or the loss of the valuable device. This is not only annoying, but sometimes also extremely costly. Cell phone insurance helps to prevent high costs in an emergency and ensure your availability. You can rely on our allround protection: AXA’s cell phone insurance helps you with minor and major damage both inside and outside the home.

Comprehensive coverage thanks to cell phone insurance

Although cell phones, tablets, and other entertainment devices are included in the basic coverage of household contents insurance, they are only insured for certain events that occur in your home, such as burglary or fire and water damage. Damage that occurs outside your home is generally not covered. Coverage for “theft away from home” supplements the coverage for theft while you are on the go, and you can cleverly extend this coverage with cell phone insurance as a supplementary module “Smartphones, tablets, and consumer electronics” to your AXA household contents insurance. The insurance covers a wide range of risks that can occur quickly and unexpectedly in everyday life, for example:

  • Display breakage: A common scenario is that your smartphone falls out of your hand. The result: The display shatters and, in the worst case, is no longer functional. Repairing the display can cost several hundred francs, but with the allround protection of AXA cell phone insurance, these costs are covered (except for the deductible).
  • Water damage: Water damage is also one of the most common types of damage to smartphones and other electronic devices. They are expensive to repair – if they can be repaired at all. While cases such as flooding are already included in the basic coverage of AXA household contents insurance, the supplementary module “Smartphones, tablets, and consumer electronics” insures situations in which you spill a glass over your laptop or drop your cell phone in the toilet, for example.
  • Theft: Theft is also a risk that many people underestimate. All it takes is a moment of inattention. You can insure against this risk with the “theft away from home” module or extend it to a higher sum with the all-round cover for cell phones.
  • Loss: Losing your cell phone unintentionally can happen faster than you think. AXA supports you quickly and effectively so that you can get a new phone quickly without having to pay the full price yourself.

Insurance coverage for all models and all people under one roof

In addition to Apple and Samsung  models, AXA’s cell phone insurance also covers  devices from all other manufacturers.  It makes no difference to the effectiveness of the insurance whether your cell phone is a  classic keypad phone or a modern smartphone   such as an iPhone.

In addition, not only your cell phone is insured: The cell phones  of all other insured persons  living in your household also benefit from AXA’s comprehensive insurance coverage. Particularly practical: If you buy a new device, it is automatically insured without you having to adjust the contract. This means that all relevant devices in your household are comprehensively protected at all times.

Quickly available again

With the insurance, you should be able to use your cell phone – or an equivalent replacement – again quickly in the event of theft, damage, or loss. The sum insured you choose therefore ensures that the replacement value of your device is covered. However, it is important to note that this sum only applies per claim, not per device. This means that if, for example, your cell phone as well as other devices are stolen at the same time, you will receive a maximum of the selected sum.

Frequently asked questions about cell phone insurance

  • How much does cell phone insurance cost?

The cost of smartphone insurance varies depending on the sum insured selected, among other things. The amount of your deductible also has a strong influence on the price – cell phone insurance without a deductible is not possible with AXA. Before you take out AXA cell phone insurance, you can easily calculate your expected premium online.

  • When is it worthwhile to take out cell phone insurance?

Cell phone insurance is almost always worthwhile, but especially if you own an expensive smartphone, tablet, or other expensive consumer electronics. If any repair or replacement costs in the event of a claim represent a major financial burden for you, the comparatively inexpensive insurance is also worthwhile. You should also consider taking out insurance if you frequently use your device away from home – for example when playing sports, traveling or in situations where there is an increased risk of damage or theft. Such insurance is also recommended if you have already suffered damage to electronic devices in the past or if you use them intensively and are dependent on them working properly.

  • Can I insure a cell phone at a later date?

With AXA, it is possible to take out insurance for your cell phone at a later date. However, damage that occurred before you took out the insurance is not covered.

  • Is cell phone insurance the same as accidental damage insurance?

Cell phone insurance can be compared to accidental damage insurance, also known as hull insurance for short. This is because it offers comprehensive protection against a variety of risks, similar to accidental damage insurance for cars. It covers damage caused by sudden, unforeseen damage due to external influences.

  • Is it possible to insure a used cell phone?

In principle, you can also insure a used cell phone. However, any damage that existed before the insurance was taken out is not covered by the cell phone insurance.
