Located near Elm in the canton of Glarus is the area known as Bränden, which, with its lush green meadows and mountain panoramas, is not only picturesque but also boasts enormous habitat diversity in a small area. With AXA’s support, the environmental foundation Umwelteinsatz with the help of civilian service workers aims to maintain this valuable area.

Green meadows, a small pond and a burbling brook in the background: The Bränden area near Elm in the canton of Glarus is very idyllic. But Bränden offers more than just nice views. The valuable cultural landscape provides a large number of diverse habitats. One of these is what is known as a spring habitat. A spring habitat is fed by underground water that seeps up to create a swampy area in which various types of mosses and plants thrive.

Only through regular management can valuable biodiverse areas such as Bränden remain intact. With support from AXA, a project was launched which, in collaboration with the canton of Glarus and with the help of civilian service workers from the environmental foundation Umwelteinsatz, is aimed at maintaining the area around Bränden.
